Stupid economy. How I hate you.

  • Jul. 9th, 2009 at 9:08 AM
Drama
Last month, when I decided to quit, the news was saying the job market was improving, or at least, failing less hard.

Now they're not. I'm kinda terrified of being unemployed now. On the other hand, I know that continuing to fight my circadian rhythm is going to make me increasingly sick and depressed.

Sigh. Who invented the economy, anyway? They suck.

It was Al Gore, right? He invented the internet, and the economy is the internet (because of the pr0n).

I thought the Internet decoupled from the economy in 2001, or thereabouts. And I don't want to beat up Al Gore.. the Internet keeps me sane at work! But I suppose someone needs a sounds beating....

I would tell you but it would take awhile. You would have to do a Monday night massacre just to whip all their sorry asses.

I thought it was a bunch of bankers in the Middle Ages, actually. Didn't they invent trade and capitalism? And they're all dead. Fuckers.

Well, it depends on whether you mean the modern economy as we know it (hello Adam Smith) or whether you mean the economy that involved international banks for which you can blame the crusades.

...or the modern, modern economy in which case you might have to have a sit down with a few of our past presidents and Alan Greenspan among a few others.

I suppose I am referring to the general mindset of more money = more better. Previous to the Middle Ages, the idea I get is that most civilizations valued more power = more better. Wealth often bought power but was not an end in itself. Also, when wealth was counted in terms of actual things, rather than bank account numbers, it required more work to acquire and maintain. I see this as something of a self-limiting factor.

I could be wrong, though. It's not like I've studied the economics of ancient civilizations. Or any economics, for that matter. It seems like the more I learn the more I want to kick people for being selfish egotistical bastards.
