Because I Haven't Posted in a While

I apologize for the meme instead of an actual update, but much of the stuff I would like to post about isn't suitable for public consumption and I am reluctant to post it unlocked. However, it appears that half the people I WOULD like feedback from are on facebook, and half are on livejournal, and I don't trust facebook's privacy settings terribly much, so I'll just have to settle for discussing things with people face to face. Even if that means repeating myself (sigh.)

1. ONE OF YOUR SCARS, HOW DID YOU GET IT?
I have a big, oval scar on my knee from slicing it on a beach folding chair when I was six (watch out, the hinges are sharp!) My mother, probably due to the fact that she had to have been taking care of my two-year-old brother, didn't want to go to the ER for stitches and did her best to butterfly it closed. I'm quite proud of my no-stitches record, even if it comes with a scar.

2. WHAT IS ON THE WALLS IN YOUR ROOM?
STUFF. Mostly bookshelves. I need to get a whiteboard to track my recording/composition/production projects.

3. DO YOU SNORE, GRIND YOUR TEETH, OR TALK IN YOUR SLEEP?
Yes. :sigh:

4. WHAT TYPE OF MUSIC DO YOU LISTEN TO?
Mostly rock, pop, and British folk/eclectic/rock stuff. But I'll listen to everything but the majority of rap and R&B, or any opera that features a soprano, for at least some amount of time.

5. WHAT TIME WERE YOU BORN?
9:10 AM, I believe.

6. WHAT DO YOU WANT MORE THAN ANYTHING RIGHT NOW?
Money to go back to college and buy a house.

7. WHAT DO YOU MISS?
Living by myself. I really enjoy having as much autonomy as possible.

8. WHAT IS YOUR MOST PRIZED POSSESSION(S)?
My knee-jerk reaction was "my books," but other people usually consider musical instruments and computer to be "possessions" rather than cyborgian extensions of self, don't they?

9. HOW TALL ARE YOU?
5'6"

10. DO YOU GET CLAUSTROPHOBIC?
When I have to be in a crowded space and interact with people, yes. It's feeling like my mere presence impedes the movement of others around me that bothers me. Any place I can park myself in a corner and shut out everything but my internal monologue, I'm fine.

11. DO YOU GET SCARED IN THE DARK?
No. My ears are sharp enough to compensate for lack of vision (and I'm dreadfully nearsighted anyway.)

12. THE LAST PERSON TO MAKE YOU CRY?
If you can't guess, message me and I'll tell you.

13. WHAT'S YOUR WORST FEAR?
That I'll be stuck scraping by as a wage slave for the rest of my life, too exhausted to enjoy my friends or family or anything.

14. WHAT KIND OF HAIR/EYE COLOR DO YOU LIKE ON THE OPPOSITE SEX?
The darker the hair, the better, for the most part. In order of decreasing preference: black, brown, blond, red. And blue or green eyes.

15. WHERE CAN YOU SEE YOURSELF PROPOSING?
I plead the fifth.

16. COFFEE OR ENERGY DRINK?
Coffee, but I'll take the energy drink if I need more caffeine and my stomach won't tolerate any more coffee.

17. FAVORITE PIZZA TOPPING?
Spinach.

18. IF YOU COULD EAT ANYTHING RIGHT NOW, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
Oh gods, I just want something covered in mozzarella. Pizza, fried cheese, whatever.

19. FAVORITE COLOR OF ALL TIME?
Purple

20. HAVE YOU EVER EATEN A GOLDFISH?
No. Running out of good questions, are we?

21. WHAT WAS THE FIRST MEANINGFUL GIFT YOU'VE EVER RECEIVED?
Define "meaningful." I got a cabbage patch doll in kindergarten at a class party that distressed me greatly because I knew my mother thought they were ugly. That's the first gift I remember. The first gift that I am sentimental about is a monkey handpuppet that my dad brought back because he had to miss my sixth birthday to go to my great-grandmother's funeral.

22. DO YOU HAVE A CRUSH?
Of course! They are fun.

23. ARE YOU DOUBLE JOINTED?
No

24. FAVORITE CLOTHING BRAND?
Brands? I prefer things I've made myself, actually. Although Threads of Time is pretty awesome.

25. WHO IS YOUR FAVORITE FEMALE/MALE CELEBRITY?
Uh... probably Felicia Day and Ryan Jordan (the singer from the band Greenwheel.) I'm not sure if they are famous enough to be "celebrities." I don't usually do the kind of celebrities who show up in People.

26. DO YOU HAVE A PET RIGHT NOW?
Jefferson the cat.

27. WHAT KIND IS IT?
See above.

28. WOULD YOU FALL IN LOVE KNOWING THAT THE PERSON IS LEAVING?
Probably. Love and infatuation are things that I am pretty good at doing, and they are fun. Of course, if by "leaving" you mean "creating as much drama as possible before the screen door hits their butt on the way out" they are probably not the kind of person I would be attracted to. But if they are merely physically leaving, I don't see why not.

30. SAY A NUMBER FROM ONE TO A HUNDRED?
TWO!

31. BLONDES OR BRUNETTES?
Brunet. (Does that word HAVE a masculine form?)

32. FAVORITE QUOTE?
I have a lot of favorite quotes, but although I shudder to admit it, one of my favorites was penned by Alister Crowley "Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law; Love is the Law, Love under Will." Translated into English, it means that actions taken under the Highest Love are never wrong. Unfortunately, it is very easy to mistake one's own emotional needs and thoughts about right and wrong for "love." It's a tricky principle to advocate for.

33. FAVORITE PLACE?
Boston in general. In specific, I'm fond of the Esplanade and the Mass Ave bridge. But down deep, Massachusetts is home to me for some unfathomable reason, and almost every place I've been resonates in my bones.

34. HAVE YOU BEEN OUT OF THE USA?
I've driven through Canada. I think I even got out of the car to pee once or twice.

35. WEAKNESSES?
If you can't figure them out after reading the rest of this, damn if I'll tell you.

What happened to 36..?
I ate it.

37. FIRST JOB?
Fast Food Hell, aka McDonald's.

38. EVER DONE A PRANK CALL?
Yep.

39. DO YOU THINK EVERYONE OUT THERE HAS A SOULMATE?
Yes, but I'm rather jaded and cynical about the whole idea. It's not nearly as romantic as popular media might want you to think.

40. WHAT WERE YOU DOING BEFORE YOU FILLED THIS OUT?
Work

41. HAVE YOU EVER HAD SURGERY?
No. I'm rather pleased about that.

42. WHAT DO YOU GET COMPLIMENTED ABOUT MOST?
My inner feminist is threatening me with a sharp knife, but it actually is my bustline.

43. HAVE YOU EVER HAD BRACES?
Nope!

44. WHAT DO YOU WANT FOR YOUR BIRTHDAY?
So many things I can use! Probably money and time to buy fabric and make myself some more clothes.

45. HOW MANY KIDS DO YOU WANT AND THEIR NAMES?
Two or so, and a girl named Deirdre Elizabeth. Just the one name picked out.

46. WERE YOU NAMED AFTER ANYONE?
A couple of distant maternal ancestors. I honestly don't remember specifics.

47. WHAT IS THE BIGGEST TURN OFF OF THE OPPOSITE SEX?
Stupidity.

48. WHAT IS ONE THING YOU LIKE(D) ABOUT HIGH SCHOOL?
Marching band and orchestra!

49. WHAT KIND OF SHAMPOO DO YOU USE?
Um, some hippie no artifical chemicals one. I actually don't remember the brand.

50. DO YOU LIKE YOUR HANDWRITING?
Meh. It serves. Could be prettier.

51. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE LUNCH MEAT?
Chicken.

52. ANY BAD HABITS?
Well... of course. Everyone's got something.

53. ARE YOU A JEALOUS PERSON?
Yes, but it's a very all-purpose jealousy, rather than specifically romantic. When I start a friendship with a cool new person, I usually get jealous of their existing relationships. It doesn't take long to go away though.

54. IF YOU WERE ANOTHER PERSON, WOULD YOU BE FRIENDS WITH YOU?
Fuck yeah. The havoc we would wreak!

55. DO YOU AGREE WITH FRIENDS WITH BENEFITS?
As long as they are low-drama friends to begin with.

56. DO LOOKS MATTER?
Yes, because by the time you get to my age, you can tell a lot about a person by the way they choose to dress and present themselves. Seriously, no one above the age of 20 or so should be dressing solely to please a social group or family - they probably have at least a little autonomy in their appearance. This of course excludes employment-based dress codes.

57. HOW DO YOU RELEASE ANGER?
I'm very bad at it, so I try not to get angry often. Usually I'll cry, but when pushed to the edge I have an awful banshee shriek.

58. WOULD YOU RATHER GAIN 58 POUNDS OR LOSE 58 POUNDS.
Lose. Losing 58 pounds would only leave me slightly underweight according to medical guidelines, and I doubt that I would have problems putting any weight back on.

59. WHAT'S YOUR MAIN GOAL IN LIFE?
Being awesome. I want my friends and family to be proud that they know me. I want to feel like I am part of a team working on something fantastic and creative and awesome.

60. WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE TOY AS A CHILD?
Probably Pipeworks, and any other constructive type things. I have a few dolls and lots of stuffed animals, but I didn't really play with them past kindergarden.

61. HOW MANY NUMBERS ARE IN YOUR CELL PHONE?
Alot? I never delete them, even though I hate calling people. Texting is pretty cool, though.

62. WERE YOU A FAN OF BARNEY AS A LITTLE KID?
Let us never speak of this again.

63. Do you use sarcasm?
Only as a blunt weapon.

64. MASHED POTATOES OR MACARONI AND CHEESE?
Boxed: mashed potatoes. Homemade: mac and cheese.

65. WHAT DO YOU LOOK FOR IN A GUY/GIRL?
Intelligence, a sense of humor compatible with mine, an interest in philosophy and religion. (Belief isn't necessary; just the interest in discussing and analyzing.) Tolerance for my own quirky, irrational beliefs. Cuddliness. Musical talent is an enormous bonus but since I usually feel like my own musical skills are inadequate I'm too intimidated to socialize much with other musicians.

66. WHAT ARE YOUR NICKNAMES?
DM, mostly.

67. FAVORITE SUPER POWER?
Probably telepathy. I'm quite fond of "knowing" superpowers as opposed to "doing" superpowers.

68. WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE TV SHOW?
I don't watch much TV. I do like humor. I downloaded almost the entire run of Scrubs at one point, and have watched the Daily Show more recently than anything else.

69. WHAT'S THE BEST WAY TO DEAL WITH YOUR ENEMIES?
"Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer."

70. WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE ICE CREAM FLAVOR?
Anything that's not chocolate or raspberry. (Raspberry has seeds, usually.)

71. DO YOU HAVE ALL YOUR FINGERS AND TOES?
Yes.

72. DO YOU HAVE A COMPUTER IN YOUR ROOM?
I have a laptop, so I could have a computer in every room I'm in! (It'd be the same computer, though.)

73. PLANS FOR TONIGHT?
Laundry, journaling, setting things on fire. Oh yeah, and recording and writing a college admissions essay.

74. WHERE DO YOU WANT TO LIVE WHEN YOU ARE OLDER?
On a nice sized bunch of land somewhere in Massachusetts.

75. DO YOU WANT EVERYONE TO ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS?
Meh.

76. WHAT ARE YOU LISTENING TO?
Nothing right this second.

77. LAST THING YOU DRANK?
Coffee.

78. LAST PERSON YOU TALKED TO ON THE PHONE?
Um, a random person at a bank I had to call for my work.

79. THE FIRST THING YOU NOTICE IN THE OPPOSITE SEX?
Unconsciously? How likely the person is to be a jackass and invade my personal space. Consciously? If they smile or make humorous comments.

80. WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO IN YOUR SPARE TIME?
What spare time? Reading and cross stitch are the two biggest non-necessary things I do.

81. FAVORITE THING TO HATE?
There's a specific person. I'm not saying any more. In general, something I hate makes me angry, and being angry upsets my stomach, so I do try to avoid it.

82. FAVORITE SEASON OF THE YEAR?
Summer!

83. WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE TYPE OF CANDY?
So many tasty kinds.

84. HAVE YOU EVER REALLY AND TRULY HAD A BEST FRIEND?
Huh. I have a lot of friends right now who are pretty awesome and "get" parts of me that no one else ever has. So I don't think I could single any one person out.

85. WHAT IS YOUR HAIR COLOR?
Brown

86. EYE COLOR?
Green

87. SHOE SIZE?
Between eight and nine. Depends on the brand.

88. FAVORITE FAST FOOD PLACE?
Any place that serves burritos instead of deep-fried self-abuse.

89. FAVORITE RESTAURANT?
I like food.

90. DO YOU LIKE SUSHI?
Not that I've tried, although every few years there will be a week where I will want to try it again. But I avoid eating seafood because of overfishing, chemical contamination, and price, so I don't actually have any.

91. WATCH TV TODAY?
Naw

92. FAVORITE DAY OF THE YEAR?
Beltane or Summer Solstice (which is a couple days away from my birthday and an excellent excuse for a party)

93. PLAY ANY MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS?
Like right now? I'm not that skilled at multitasking! ;)
But, for anyone who doesn't already know:
I've been singing since I was talking (certainly not that well, but I can hit the correct notes.)
I've been playing violin off and on for 20 years, although because of the irregularity of my practice I am not nearly as good as that statement makes it sound.
I did about 2.5 solid years at piano, but keyboards are not nearly as much fun to play so I am very much out of practice. It's on my to-do list of things to pick up again, since keyboard is useful for an electronic composer.
I just picked up folk harp; I've been practicing about a month and am pretty pleased about my progress. I've wanted to learn harp for about 10 years but haven't been able to find a teacher - last year I just said "screw it" and picked up a three-octave instrument at a ren faire, and now I finally have time to practice it.
I'm also not too bad at operating random instruments that come into my hands, like flute, trumpet, etc.

94. REPUBLICAN OR DEMOCRAT?
I usually end up Democrat, but I actually loathe the way political parties are implemented and how much people fight over it. I tend to avoid politics whenever possible.

95. KISSES OR HUGS?
Sweet wonderful kisses! But hugs are pretty fantastic, and kisses only win by a hair.

96. RELATIONSHIPS OR ONE NIGHT STANDS?
Relationships, even if that relationship is "friendship." I don't think I am actually capable of hooking up with someone if I don't expect to hang out with them and be their friend.

97. WHAT WAS THE LAST THING YOU BOUGHT?
Coffee this morning.

98. WOULD YOU EVER BE A HOUSEWIFE?
No, if forced into unemployment I'd probably turn to freelancing (at music comp and sound design). I know that's what I'm planning to do when I have kids if I don't have a job where telecommuting is an option for at least part of the time.

99. WHAT BOOK ARE YOU READING?
I don't have any new books. Recently, I've re-read Stranger in a Strange Land, flipped through my gardening books, and skimmed through some of my space opera novels. I have my eye on a few paperbacks I need to pick up soon, though.

100. DESCRIBE YOUR LOVE LIFE:
Awesome.

I thought this was one of the most interesting memes I've read in a long time. It was long, but I didn't notice that as I was reading it. I especially pondered at #42, #58, #69, and #74.

Thanks for doing this and posting.

Nice to be back on LJ again. It's been awhile...

:)
